About Us

Our names are Jackie and Bernie Calka. Our breeding business is a team effort. Our whole family works together to provide a clean, ethical, safe Breeding business. We both love golden retrievers. Over the years, we have had different golden retrievers with preventable health issues. This was hard for us as a family. This is where the passion and determination to have healthy and happy golden retrievers have developed.

I purchased our first golden retriever 25 years ago. Her name was Emma. Unbeknownst to me, We did not know that Emma had severe hip dysplasia of both hips. As we were raising Emma, there were simple tasks that a healthy golden would have no problem doing, but Emma had difficulty going up the stairs or jumping. This causes us all to be sad. When you have a pet, you treat it just like family and do not want it to suffer. It was hard for me to see that the children were so concerned about how Emma was doing with her walking and playing. When you adopt a new pet, you expect them to be healthy and disease-free.  Upon contacting the breeder, I felt terrible that Emma, a beautiful golden retriever, had to struggle because of overbreeding. The breeder stated that most of her puppies were all the same way. They have hip dysplasia because they are a larger dog breed. Knowing that this statement was untrue. I had to show that hip dysplasia could be prevented.  If breeding is done right, you can have many dogs and puppies clear of hip dysplasia. As time went on, we were able to keep Emma comfortable, but we were seeing her struggle.

We purchased another golden retriever from a recommended breeder and brought Shelby home. She is so beautiful, just like Emma. Within the first year, her knee became a problem. She needed expensive surgery. The vet mentioned that this occurred because of overbreeding. Adding to our family and discovering that our golden retrievers have hip dysplasia and lousy knees due to breeding frustrated me that people can sell a dog that may be sick.

I immediately began to study what overbreeding means and how it happens. We had contacted the breeder to inform her that Shelby had been sick, but the breeder never returned our calls. All these situations caused me to want to become a dog breeder for golden retrievers. The passion that I feel for having a healthy dog is so strong. Make sure to get the dog that we want to breed checked. Getting OFA certification clearances.  Get genetic testing for all of our dogs to be clear of any common diseases that can come with having a golden retriever. We register all dogs with the American Kennel Association. At The “B” Team, Goldens gets involved in many dog and puppy events to gain as much knowledge about the breed as possible. Learning about them is a continuous effort to keep up with current things.

We here at The” B” Team Goldens value the golden retriever breed and want to provide the healthiest dogs. Our love and ethics have determined us to breed the healthiest puppies and dogs. We put extra care into each dog we own, allowing the dogs to be the best they can be—all the little things we do give me the passion to provide healthy puppies to many families. Once you meet our Golden Retrievers, I am sure you will notice that we put the time needed to take care of our dogs so you can have a healthy puppy from us. We want your new puppy to be healthy, play, have fun, and be the best dog you can ask for, even after you purchase a puppy from us. If you have any questions or concerns, we will gladly help in any way possible.

Thank you,

 Jackie, Bernie, and Children
